We understand that pupils arrive at school with varied experiences. Through this layer of the curriculum, we provide pupils with a wide variety of experiences to develop their interests. These experiences are designed to deepen their understanding of the world.

Pupils are taught the importance of charity and inclusion and that their opinions and contributions are valued; this is evident in academy council. Our pupils are involved in democratic processes to vote in the Head Boy and Head Girl, as well as the academy council and school buddies.

Forest Schools

In the Autumn Term we had the opportunity to work with Get Out More and Bradford Forest Schools to introduce all our children to the wonders of Forest Schools. From Den Making to Elder Jewellery to Fire Making and Marshmallow Toasting, children experienced all that the outdoors has to offer. We have continued our exploration of Forest Schools at Southmere by training our own practitioner who works with Nurture Groups. More whole school Forest Schools sessions coming soon!

In November 2021, Year 6 took part in Bikeability Level 1 and 2 training. The children really enjoyed the sessions as well developing some important skills.

Musical Instrument Tuition

Every child at Southmere will learn a range of musical instruments. Each year group studies a new instrument each year. In Year 1-Drums, Year 2-Recorder, Year 3-Ukelele, Year 4-Guitar, Year 5-Clarinet, Year 6-Trumpet

After School Clubs

Family Enrichment

During Easter 2021 and Summer 2021 we were lucky enough to secure funding to provide Family Fun Sessions. With thanks to Inn Churches who ran cooking classes using some of Jamie Oliver’s recipes and Bradford Bulls who also came along and involved our families in game in he Main Hall.
