Music

At Southmere Primary Academy, we provide a high quality music education that engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians which increases their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. Children enjoy specific teaching time for music where they are introduced to different instruments, musicians and genres.

One of the greatest gifts a child can have is the ability to perform or play a musical instrument. We provide all pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 with the opportunity to learn a musical instrument with the children in EYFS taking part in weekly vocal coaching lessons. These are all delivered by specialist teachers from the Bradford Music and Arts Service.

Each year group focuses on learning a different musical instrument throughout the year with instruction from peripatetic specialists in partnership with Bradford Music and Arts service:

EYFS-Vocal Tuition

Year-Percussion

Year 2-Recorder

This is a fantastic chance for our pupils to experience musical instruments and develop their talents.

Enhancing the Music Curriculum

Our Year 5’s had the opportunity to attend St George’s Hall to play their clarinets with Manchester’s The Halle Orchestra. It was a fantastic opportunity to see different genres of music as well what can be achieved in a career in music.

Getting ready for the children to arrive at St George’s Hall
The concert gets under way! An amazing sound.

We had a different start to a Tuesday morning on 4th October. A musical treat from The Plumber Drummer. The children showed off their musical knowledge by asking really interesting questions about how the sound was made. There were some original pieces to appraise as well as some well-known classics to name. The teachers were also bopping along to 90’s house music! The children couldn’t wait for their music lesson this week, they all wanted to be able to play Baby Shark on their instruments!
